Pets come with some powerful mental health benefits. Most of us don’t know that cats help improve mental health by decreasing stress, offering companionship and even serving as a therapy animal.
.
During this difficult period, we partnered with Kerstin Schulze of Project LUNI - Rehoming & Caring for Street Cats Singapore to enlighten people about pet-adoption and how cats can help you with your mental health during this “Circuit Breaker” period and beyond. We will also address the difficulties of animal rescues during Covid19 and some general advice on welcoming a cat - or two - into your home.
.
Kerstin is a Singapore based pet and portrait photographer (MarZel Photography) who started her volunteer and foster journey in 2016 after adopting 2 kittens from a local shelter. Wanting to do more to help local animals, she volunteers as a photographer and admin for Project LUNI since 2018. A former IT professional, she continuously tries to improve her knowledge taking distance learning courses on animal behaviour and care.
.
During the Covid19 period she is taking care of Tigger & Piglet, 2 tiny bottle babies. Despite fleas, sleepless nights and other health scares, they help her focus on something else than the dreary situation outside.
.
About Project LUNI:
.
Project LUNI is a Singapore-registered non-profit organization that has been saving street cats and kittens since 2017. Founded by Nina Heusler-Astolfi and Lukas Heusler, the project focuses on four pillars: rehoming kittens, daily feeding of street cats, Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR), and medical care for street cats. Together with a passionate team of volunteers they successfully rehomed 117 cats in 2019 and have also sterilised more than 400 cats since their inception. After the circuit breaker, over 24 cats & kittens currently in their care are looking for forever homes!
.
All of Project LUNI’s kittens and cats are vaccinated, dewormed and treated against fleas/mites if necessary. They have visited a vet for at least one full health check and will give you the vaccination booklet at the adoption date. Mostly, Project LUNI understands how important it is to socialise and shower them with love so they will make a perfect family member and are happy to live in a home before putting them up for adoption.
